Types of biopsy we perform
Punch biopsy (3 mm or 4 mm — for inflammatory and pigmentary disorders), shave biopsy (for raised lesions), excisional biopsy (for suspicious moles, full removal). Also incisional biopsy for large lesions and scalp biopsy for scarring alopecia.
The procedure
Local anaesthesia is given with a fine needle. The skin sample is taken in 5 minutes. Punch sites are closed with one or two sutures; shave sites heal as a small scab. Sutures are removed at 7–10 days.
When biopsy is recommended
Suspicious moles or new growths, persistent rashes not responding to therapy, suspected autoimmune skin disease, scarring alopecia, suspected skin cancer, and pigmentation disorders needing definitive diagnosis.
Reports and follow-up
Reports return in 5–7 working days. We schedule a discussion appointment to walk you through the diagnosis and next steps. Sample blocks are stored at the lab for future immunohistochemistry if required.
